T-shirt Monthly was a t-shirt magazine of its own kind, the magazine being the t-shirt itself, nothing more, nothing less. Started in January 2007, it lasted for 33 months and that many issues before ending in September 2009 with a beautiful design by Mike Mills.

By subscribing to T-shirt Monthly you got 1 fresh t-shirt every month for six months, each exclusively designed for T-shirt Monthly.

T-shirt Monthly is hand-printed on American Apparel t-shirts.

The purpose of this project is to celebrate the t-shirt as an art form, it has no commercial purpose and we only hope to cover our production costs.

Sebastien Gorey was born in Paris (France) in 1976. He currently lives in Brooklyn. He is regarded as one of the New York’s influential and viable designers today. Next to works in the streets and art galleries, Gorey has been making graffiti, illustrations and graphic designs for some of the most profound companies in street culture. Starting his career drawing as a child, it didn’t take long for him to realize that “walls were much more intriguing than paper”.
Gorey has been working for clients such as Zoo York, Upper Playground, Six Pack, and Think Differently Music.

After stints as publisher of On the Go Magazine, author of the book The Art Of Getting Over, and full-time graffiti writer, Powers opened his studio in 1998. Since then he has shown at The Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, The 49th Venice Biennale, The Luggage Store in San Francisco, and had his first museum solo show at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 2007. In 2003, he founded the Dreamland Artist Club and partnered with Creative Time to commission over 45 artists to paint signs and rides in Coney Island. Last summer he returned to Coney Island with Creative Time and opened The Waterboard Thrill Ride. As a 2008 Fulbright Scholar, Powers painted a love story in the streets of Dublin and Belfast.

Because one thing is pretty obvious, he is printing so many t-shirts that he will eventually get bored and move on to his creative dreams, like painting letters on billboards and working in New York within two years.
Though one thing is sure: he wants to keep his hands busy and dirty, and will always do it whole-heartedly for T-shirt Monthly.
